Discounts At The Rodeo
How to get every possible bargain discount at the 2016 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
With the start of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo just around the corner, it's the perfect time to figure out how to make the most of your money at the annual event, whether it's for a concert, the carnival or even food.
Smart rodeo-goers are on the hunt of any discounts or deals they can find to save a little cash at Houston's big event, which officially kicks off on March 1 and runs through March 20, although events like the World Championship BBQ Contest begin today (February 25) and the rodeo parade is Saturday.
There are some bargains to be hand, but in some cases you have to act quickly as some deals have to be purchased by Saturday (February 27). Here's a rundown:
Value Wednesdays
Every Wednesday during the rodeo, patrons can enjoy a serious discount on admission to concerts and the rodeo with tickets costing only $10, significantly less than the average admission of around $25. You can use the discount to access concerts on those days, including Chris Young (March 2), Brett Eldredge (March 9) and Jake Owen (March 16).
If you're only looking to enjoy the carnival, tickets to enter NRG Park are $5 on Wednesdays.
Additionally, seniors over 60 and children under 13 can enter for free on those days, and from 11 am to 4 pm. All rides, games and special food items in Kids Country Carnival are $2.
Visitors are also awarded $5 off a $25 purchase at any official HSLR merchandise booth.
With three Wednesdays to choose from during the nearly three-week event, visitors have several opportunities to take advantage of these significant discounts.
Half-Price Carnival Packs and Carnival Food Cards
Visitors have the chance to save big at the carnival in NRG Park with Half-Price Carnival Packs. Available for $10 (valued at $33.50) and $50 (valued at $131.50), the packs include a number of tickets for rides and games (150 tickets with the $50 pack), as well as refreshment and free game coupons and $5 off a $25 purchase at official HSLR merchandise booth.
Also, with a $20 Carnival Food Card, visitors are awarded $30 worth of credit to be spent on refreshments at any Midway food and beverage stand.
But you have to act quickly. The Half-Price Carnival Packs and Carnival Food Cards must be purchased prior to the opening of the Rodeo and will be on sale through February 27.
NRG Park Season Pass
If you more interested in roaming the grounds than entering NRG Stadium for the rodeo and shows, an NRG Park Season Pass is the perfect solution. For only $25, you get unlimited entry to the carnival, NRG Arena for horse show events and NRG Center for AGventure, the livestock show, shopping and food exhibits during the entire run of the rodeo. NRG Park opens at 8 am each day during the rodeo
The pass includes access to the World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest (including a chopped barbecue beef sandwich plate).
Additionally, children under the age of 2 are allowed free entry.
