2 adorable Houston puppies get ready to roll in Puppy Bowl XVI
Some are Kansas City Chiefs fans. Others are San Francisco 49ers fans. Some don’t even care about the Big Game on Sunday, February 2. But all can agree on one thing: puppies.
With that in mind, and back by “pawpular” (sorry) demand, Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XVI returns on Super Bowl Sunday. As if a pile o’ puppies (Team Ruff and Team Fluff) scampering around a tiny football field isn’t reason enough to watch, Houstonians have another incentive to tune in. Two puppies from local shelter, Citizens for Animal Protection, have made the roster and will vie for the (again, sorry) “Lombarky” Trophy at 2 pm February 2.
According to the shelter (which partners will CultureMap for the pet of the week feature), CAP puppies Strudel and Pearl spent weeks in foster care prepping for the game. Chocolate-coated Shih Tzu/terrier puppy Strudel “ran many offense drills with her work out partner, Pyrenees Wesley, who taught her to focus on the ball.”
Meanwhile, spaniel/Border Collie, Pearl, also “trained like a pro, choosing to focus on her defensive prowess with interception training by stealing cat toys from the household felines.”
To honor Strudel and Pearl, CAP will waive the adoption fees for all pets adopted at the shelter on Sunday, February 2, from 11am to 6 pm during a “TAIL-gating Adoption Event,” sponsored by West Houston Subaru.
As for the Puppy Bowl, the match features 96 adoptable pups pulled from 61 dedicated animal shelters and rescue organizations representing over 25 states. The Puppy Bowl pre-game show starts at 1 pm on Animal Planet (check local listings for channel).
