Pet of the Week
Meet Gumbo, the happy hound dog, CultureMap's pet of the week

Name: Gumbo, as in the Jimmy Buffett song, "I Will Play For Gumbo." Fun fact: the word Gumbo may have come from "kombo," the Chocktaw name for file powder, a spicy herb derived from the sassafras tree.
Birthdate: December 8, 2015. I'm in the prime of my life, with a long way to go. I'm not interested in a reverse mortgage or a "Place for Mom" yet.
Ethnicity: I ain't nothing but a hound dog — mix — and I ain't never caught a rabbit. Good news/bad news. The bad news is, I've been at the shelter since before Christmas.
The good news is, that makes me a VIP, which means I can be adopted for half the normal price. Not to brag, but I'm beautiful and affectionate, a real smoke machine as the boys say. Everybody at the shelter loves me.
I'm a total sweetie. I'm spayed and housebroken and I know a bunch of doggie commands. One suggestion, it'd be best if I'm the only dog in the house. I'm an indoor dog who loves to go on walks and watch TV with you on the couch. The only piece missing from my jigsaw puzzle is a nice family to adopt me.
Hey, you didn't hear it from me, but all adoptions this Super Bowl Sunday are free — that's right, 100-percent free, courtesy of the great hearts at West Houston Subaru.
Come and get me: I'm available for adoption at 11 am Friday, January 31, at Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway; 281-497-0591). Tell them, "Ken sent me."
