Another Midtown street party linking two popular bars adds to the Super Bowl fun
Add another Midtown party to your Super Bowl list.
Two of the area's most iconic bars are joining up for a "VIP party without the VIP price" on February 4, with local spirits, brews, barbecue, and Texas bands. The Tailgate on McGowen: A Local Celebration for the Big Game! will stretch from the parking lot of Mongoose versus Cobra, 1011 McGowen, to Leon’s Lounge, aka "Houston's oldest bar," across the street at 1006 McGowen.
The party will feature Harlem Road Texas BBQ from pitmaster Ara Malekian, specialty Tailgate cocktail drinks, exclusive craft beers from six Houston breweries (8th Wonder, Eureka Heights, Lone Pint, Southern Star, Saint Arnold and Town In City), and live music from four Houston bands.
Back-to-back concerts from the Blaggards, Soulshine and Edgebrook will take place from 11 am to 11 pm on the outdoor stage. Then the party will move inside where Mystery Loves Company will perform until 2 am February 5, along with mixed beats by DJ Kon Fusion.
Early bird tickets are available at $20 per person and day of tickets will be $25. Parking passes will also be available for the day at $30, with benefiting the Christus Foundation for Healthcare.
The event adds yet another party venue to the Midtown/Downtown Corridor. As CultureMap previously reported, the Mid Main SuperFest, a free four-day music, art and food block party will take place February 2 through 5 in the 3600 and 3700 blocks of Main Street near the Ensemble/HCC light rail stop, a few blocks away from the Tailgate on McGowen.
A few blocks from the Mid Main SuperFest, in Midtown Park, ESPN will set up shop and broadcast its full line of NFL daily shows, including NFL Insiders, NFL Live, SportsCenter, the Super Bowl Sunday edition of NFL Countdown, andESPN Radio's Mike & Mike show. (UPDATE: ESPN has moved its broadcast location to a parking lot next to Toyota Center in downtown Houston.)
And a few rail stops away, the free Super Bowl LIVE festitivies will take place from January 27 to Feb 5 in Discovery Green, with concerts featuring ZZ Top, Solange Knowles, and The Suffers, and a signature thrill ride.
