A Perry Girl
CNN quizzes H-Town socialite Joanne King Herring on dating the world's mostpowerful men
These days pretty much anyone can write an autobiography, as Miley Cyrus and Paris Hilton have reminded us.
But Houston's Joanne King Herring made an appearance on CNN on Wednesday morning to remind viewers what an interesting life story sounds like.
Promoting her book Diplomacy and Diamonds: My Wars from the Ballroom to the Battlefield, Herring talked to host Ali Velshi in CNN's American Morning about her time as a special envoy to Pakistan and going on the ground in Afghanistan to film the mujahideen fighting against the Russians.
Herring also talked about being portrayed by Julia Roberts, having dinner with Ronald Reagan, committing a faux pas in front of the queen of England, and her romance with the late congressman Charlie Wilson. Asked by Velshi about her history dating some of the world's most famous and powerful men, Herring gamely sidesteps the question: "Well what do you do when one puts his hand on your thigh at dinner? Read the book."
Herring also promoted her Marshall Plan for Afghanistan and endorsed Rick Perry for president on the air.
