At the top — again
Wanna be an entrepreneur? Come to Houston; UH's Wolff Center is No. 1 in newrankings
Houston has long been thought of as an entrepreneurial city — and now there's proof. The University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business's Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship has again been ranked the No. 1 entrepreneur program in the U.S. among undergraduate schools.
The Princeton Review conducted an exhaustive survey throughout the 2010-2011 school year, looking at over 2,300 entrepreneur programs at business schools around the United States. Analysts then ranked those programs according to academics and requirements, students and faculty, and factors outside of the classroom.
The results were announced on Tuesday and published in Entrepreneur magazine's October 2011 issue.
The undergraduate list includes two other Texas schools — Baylor University's Entrepreneurship Program (No. 3) and TCU's Neeley Entrepreneurship Program (No. 21). UH surpasses both private universities in terms of tuition cost (low) and enrollment numbers (high).
Rice University's Jones Graduate School Entrepreneurship Progam made the list for top graduate schools, ranking at No. 9 on the list, just behind the University of Texas Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship (No. 8).
It's the fourth year that The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazinehave conducted the survey and the fourth time that the University of Houston has ranked near or at the top of the list.
According to Rob Franek, senior vice president for content development at the Princeton Review, the results of the survey are meant to serve as a tool for perspective business students.
"The prevailing thought was that entrepreneurs could only be taught through the school of hard knocks, specifically students starting businessess and learning as they went along," said Franek in a video announcing the results. "But the truth is that colleges and universities are fantastic incubators of entrepreneurial thought and student-created and -managed businesses."
It's the fourth year that The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazinehave conducted the survey and the fourth time that the UH has ranked near or at the top of the list. The Wolff Center topped the list at No. 1 in 2010 and 2008, and fell in at No. 2 in 2009, behind Babson College.
