All work and no health care, Houston ranks as one of the most stressful citiesin America
Houston ranked No. 3 on the Most Stressful Cities list.
Las Vegas and The Strip came in at No. 2.
But no one beats Los Angeles for stress.
What makes a stressful city? According to Forbes, it's high unemployment, long commutes, long work hours, limited access to health care, being unhealthy and no exercise.
Several of these are factors that make Houston the third most stressful city in the country (on Forbes' list), behind only Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Houston was cited particularly for having the longest work week in the country, at 41.3 hours, as well as the highest proportion of residents without health care, with almost a quarter uninsured despite a relatively low unemployment rate.
In addition Houston was the fifth most unhealthy city and had the 10th-longest commute time.
Added up, it's enough to make you reach for that stress ball or pull a Frank Costanza. Of course, it isn't all bad news:
In many cities, stress is the price locals pay for other advantages. In Houston, for example, workers may burn the midnight oil, but they are rewarded for it with median household incomes of $54,811 annually, 4.8% higher than the national average, according to the U.S. Census.
More money in your pocket? All the better to afford some de-stressing yoga — or a therapist.
