A Rocking Night
Local TV news anchor gets a surprise marriage proposal from an NBA voice — and she says yes
Sorry, guys! KHOU Channel 11 evening news anchor Lisa Hernandez is officially off the market. In a proposal fit for a broadcast journalist, KHOU captured the couple's big moment on camera Tuesday evening.
The news anchor's special fellow Joel Blank, the broadcast coordinator and radio announcer for the Houston Rockets, decided to pop the question following an intimate Goo Goo Dolls concert at the 96.5 Mix studios. As soon as the music stopped, he went into action.
Blank had arranged for the cameras to roll as he stood and announced, “I said a long time ago that when you plus me equals we — we would become unstoppable. And on our first date, you said we both went on our last first date. Today, I'm going to make sure that's possible."
As he pulled a ring box from his pocket, Blank said the fateful words, "Lisa, I love you. Will you marry me?" There were cheers all around as Hernandez accepted both the ring and a bouquet of flowers.
Of course, the magic moment was aired on the 10 o'clock news with anchors Greg Hurst and Shern-Min Chow introducing the segment.
