Dangers of Pocket Dialing
Serious buzz kill: College Station teens arrested after accidentally dialing 911 while smoking pot
A pair of College Station teenagers are feeling pretty lame this week after an accidental cell phone call to 911 landed them in jail with drug charges.
Area police say small time drug dealer David Norris was hanging out at home on Sunday when he inadvertently pocket dialed the emergency hotline. But instead of getting frantic details about a fire or traffic accident, dispatchers caught a laid-back conversation about pot between two dudes passing the dutchie.
Responding to the address, officers found no calamity whatsoever . . . just a lot of pungent smoke.
College Station police quickly obtained a search warrant to enter the house, where found 29 grams of cocaine, 5 grams of hash oil, several ounces of weed and more than $4,100 in cash.
Norris and his buddy Kyle Bading — who are 18 and 19-years-old, respectively — were taken into custody on the spot and charged with marijuana possession.
While Bading made his $2,000 bail, Norris faces more serious allegations of delivery of a controlled substance and remains in a Brazos County jail under a $110,000 bond.
According to KBTX in College Station, police note that the charges are steep due to the home's location within a drug-free zone less than 1,000 of a playground.
