Shoplifting Shooting
Killed over a 12-pack of bad beer: Thief shot dead by pistol-blazing teenagestore clerk
Lone Star Groceries on Elgin Street near Ennis Street isn't the place to try one's hand at shoplifting.
As KHOU first reported, the manager of the 24-hour convenience store and self-service gas station shot and killed a beer thief at 12:05 a.m. on Friday.
An alleged repeat offender, the 52-year-old thief walked into the store, grabbed a 12-pack of beer and walked out.
The brazen act of petty larceny really peeved the 19-year-old clerk, who followed the thief outside and shot the suspect "an unknown number of times" with a handgun.
Lone Star Groceries — which advertises pre-paid phone cards and two-for-one cigarillos — doesn't look to be a purveyor of premium brews.
Nevertheless, that brazen act of petty larceny really peeved the 19-year-old clerk, who followed the thief outside and shot the suspect "an unknown number of times" with a handgun.
The thief was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Houston Police Department issued a news release on Friday morning announcing that the "investigation is continuing."
