Stadium tragedy: Young woman found dead at UH's new football palace plunged 60 feet, landed by scoreboard
The construction site of the University of Houston's new $120 million football palace has become the tragic scene of a student's death.
A construction worker discovered the body of a female student at the site of the new college football stadium early Monday morning, according to university police.
The body was found in the southwest corner of the stadium. Construction on the stadium, set to be finished by Aug. 29, resumed around 1 p.m. on Monday according to UH executive director of media relations Richard Bonnin. That's about six hours after the dead student was noticed.
The student, who has yet to be identified, was found near the new stadium's scoreboard and is suspected to have fallen approximately 60 feet. There are no signs of foul play and suicide is suspected, according to a source.
The University Police Department is still investigating the incident. Several Houston students tell KHOU that they felt security at the stadium site was lacking — and weren't surprised the female student found her way into the active construction site.
