Who needs Oprah? Houston man wins a free brand-new Cadillac on a whim
Hector Vera was standing outside of Lucky's Pub, watching the shuttle bus to a Houston Rockets game drive off without him on it, when a sleek sport sedan caught his eye.
"It was all lit up and the interior looked really nice," Vera tells CultureMap. A street team explained to him that he could post a photo online for a chance to win the car — a brand new Cadillac ATS contest, which first launched at CultureMap's Close-up Music Series this spring — so he signed up on a whim.
Several months later, Vera got a call from Cadillac: He had won the ATS, a hip, young car with all of the clout of the classic.
"I didn't think it would ever happen, but it did," says Vera, who picked up his ATS from Stewart Cadillac in Midtown on Thursday afternoon. He got to take it for a test drive last week, and says that it rides like a dream.
This is the third of four cars that Cadillac will give away in Austin, Houston and Dallas as part of a three-month promotion (the first winner was a CultureMap reader from Dallas who entered at one of the Close-up Music Series events). The contest ran through May 31, but one more winner will be revealed from the entries.
