Opening date set for big-name Houston chef's new Italian restaurant
As construction moves along on the 22-story BBVA Compass Plaza on Post Oak Boulevard, so inches forward the timeline for two restaurants from renowned Houston chefs.
The Houston Business Journal reports that Osteria Mazzantini, an Italian concept from Mockingbird Bistro chef John Sheely, has set mid-August as its opening date. Diners should expect an ample patio area and a spacious bar with wine cellar views in the 4,000-square-foot restaurant.
And what of the adjacent 8,000-square-foot spot leased by James Beard Award nominee Hugo Ortega? All has been quiet on that front since CultureMap broke the news of its lease last September.
A spokesperson for Ortega and his wife and business partner, Tracy Vaught, tells CultureMap that the restaurant — which is "not a second location of Hugo's," Ortega's eponymous Montrose eatery — is expected to open in September. No further details are currently available.
