Explain this to me: We get the oil in the Gulf, we refine it into gasoline here in the Houston area, and the cheapest prices are usually found in ... Dallas? You've got to be kidding me.
But this week, for once, being the oil and gas capital of the country is having a palpable effect on the wallet of every Houstonian. With prices falling, just as we head into summer driving season, Houston has tallied the lowest gas prices in Texas for the second consecutive week, according to the AAA Texas Fuel Gauge Report.
Houston drivers are paying an average of $2.69 at the pump this week, compared to $2.74 around the state and $2.84 nationwide.
Which is good news for the two million Texas drivers expected to take a trip by car over Memorial Day next weekend.
Now if only we could unclog I-45 ...
