Tastemaker Party Video
Tastemaker Awards video: Hot chefs, cool crowd, fab dancers, fun time!
The first-ever CultureMap Tastemaker Awards provided the perfect opportunity for ace videographer Joel Luks and me to roam around Winter Street Studios to capture all the action.
We spoke with Sandy Wicoff, executive director of Urban Harvest, the evening's beneficiary, about the local food movement, watched fabulous Urban Swank founders Shanna Jones and Felice Sloan bust a move on the dance floor (and wished we could dance like that) and learned a lot about what makes a good tequila in the Herradura tequila lounge.
We talked with Nara chef Donald Chang, who with his staff created 600 buns stuffed with spicy Korean pork for the ravenous crowd. Nara was one of a dozen restaurants that offered tasty specialities. We also gorged on delicacies from 60 Degrees Mastercrafted, Boheme, Trenza, Eatsie Boys Cafe, Mala Sichuan Bistro, Goro & Gun, Mr. Peeples, Triniti, Kuu, Ibiza and Coppa Osteria.
And we congratulated Liberty Kitchen's Travis Lenigon his San Felipe establishment winning in the Best New Restaurant Design category and 8th Wonder Bar co-owner Ryan Soroka and brewmaster Aaron Corsi on taking the Best Brewery award.
We asked Lenig why events like the CultureMap Tastemaker Awards are important. "It lets people see who the culinary community is and get a taste and feel of what's to come," he said. "I think it's so great for our restaurants."
A full list of the 12 Tastemaker Award winners are available here, along with full party coverage of the event. We can't wait 'til next year!
