Zindzhi gets a playmate: Another adorable giraffe born at the Houston Zoo
Another day. Another giraffe born at the Houston Zoo.
Our obsession with the world's tallest living terrestrial animals got another big boost this week when zoo officials announced that second-time mom Asali gave birth to a female giraffe at the McGovern Giraffe Barn at the African Forest on Monday. Both the mother and the newborn calf, who weighed 148 pounds at birth and is estimated to be 6 feet 6 inches tall, are doing fine.
It is the second baby giraffe born at the zoo in two weeks. A giraffe named Tyra gave birth to a Masai female giraffe, later named Zindzhi, on April 14. The young giraffe made her public debut a few days later.
The newest infant giraffe will likewise meet the public in a few days after she has had time to bond with her mom. She's already met Zindzhi and it looks like the two are establishing a beautiful friendship.
