"I want it to burn": Late Nite Pie owner charged with ordering the massive fireat pizza joint
Houston Arson Investigators arrested Late Nite Pie owner Felicity D. Burris, 35, on Tuesday in connection to the early February fire that destroyed the noted Midtown pizzeria. The suspect, who is on deferred adjudication for a prior 2010 forgery charge, is being held without bond at a Harris County jail.
The news comes less than a week after authorities arrested the restaurant's former manager 45-year-old Raymond Pecher on a count of second degree arson in relation to Feb. 8 blaze that brought more than 100 firefighters to the 300 block of Tuam where the popular after-hours eatery operated. Pecher was arrested Friday in light of a surveillance video that recorded him leaving the building and driving off in a Chevrolet Astro van only minutes before the flames appeared.
Raymond Pecher stated that he set fire and that the Burris "promised to take care of him and has paid his rent since the business burned."
Pecher wrote in a voluntary statement that he set fire to the building using lighter fluid at the request of his then-boss Burris, who, according to a court document filed Tuesday, "promised to take care of him and has paid his rent since the business burned."
The court document also states that Shane Strahan, who lives with Burris and works as her personal assistant, overheard the two suspects discussing the fire several months ago and remembered Burris saying, "I’m tired of it. I just want it gone. I want it to burn."
