Burning rubber takes on a new meaning: Houston commute turns smoky thanks totire fire (with first photos)
There was plenty of burning rubber during Houston's early Monday evening commute. But not the kind you want.
A tire fire sent a large column of smoke over Highway 59 at the Tidwell exchange, creating quite a sight for motorists and some rubbernecking delays. The first sightings of the smoke left many wondering and scrambling to find out what the cause could be. Several media outlets reported on the "mysterious smoke."
CultureMap readers know better thanks to the work of reader James Jackson, who sent us an update and exclusive photos from the scene. The photos show the intensity of the fire in the tall stacks of tires at a scrap yard.
