Mileage racing: Hitting the track for the Shell Eco Marathon
When it comes to a Texans' way of thinking, there aren't many circumstances where "less is more" holds true. But at the Shell Eco Marathon, a competition running at the George R. Brown Convention Center through Sunday, more than 100 teams of savvy, young engineers will put their heads together to take on a race challenge in which speed isn't a critical element.
Instead, the goal is distance and fuel efficiency.
CultureMap's Joel Luks hits the racing track and checks in with teams from St. John's School and Louisiana Tech University to explore how they are tweaking their technologies to design modern marvels that travel the furthest — with the least amount of energy.
Who knows? Among them may be an inventor who revolutionizes transportation.
