From Justin Bieber to funnel cake fever: Hidden Rodeo truths
Mar 22, 2010 | 3:24 pm
Well, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has officially packed up and left the building (and surrounding parking lots) and it was a record-breaking year.
Ever wonder how many turkey legs get eaten over the month-long event? CultureMap has the Rodeo stats:
- More than two million visitors came through the gates — the first time general attendance has breached the two million mark.
- Go Tejano Day had the most single-day visitors, and the highest concert ticket sales.
- Only one country act (Brooks & Dunn) ranked in the top five concerts for attendance, and the Jonas Brothers were beat out by Justin Bieber.
- Each rodeo event champion (there were seven) walked away with at least $50,000
- 73 piglets, 22 lambs and 17 calves were born, and more than 1,000 chicks were hatched.
- 100,000 funnel cakes, 91,000 turkey legs, and 7,500 chocolate-covered cheescakes-on-a-stick were sold.
