Prepare for more Houston traffic with new closure announced for 610 West Loop
Houstonians and Inner Loopers looking for a reprieve from the nightmare of West Loop traffic will have to wait a bit longer.
The Texas Department of Transportation has announced that the 610 West Loop southbound frontage road — from Memorial Drive to Woodway Drive — will close at midnight, Saturday, March 16. The closure was originally planned for last weekend but was delayed, a TxDOT spokesperson tells CultureMap.
The road closure will be in effect until summer of 2019, according to TxDOT.
The closure is to facilitate the pouring of the foundation for the elevated bridge and constructing columns on the 610/West Loop (southbound frontage road from Memorial Drive to Woodway Drive), as work on the elevated dedicated bus lane continues, according to a statement.
During the closure, crews will be working under and on both sides of the frontage road to set the foundation to support the elevated bridge structure.
So how does one navigate the mess? Drivers can detour the closure by:
- Turning left at Memorial Drive
- Left at Picnic Lane
- Left again onto Memorial Drive traveling west
- Take the Woodway split back to 610 West Loop
