A hidden Houston gem: This under-the-radar flea market will blow antique collectors' minds
This week's KHOU CultureMap Moment highlights The Vintique Flea, a new two day event perfect for the Houston collector buff.
Vintage and antique lovers figure to love 'vintiquing', which is a hybrid of the two words. The vibrant market, founded by the organizers of Rice Village Flea and the antiques dealer for the Curiosities Too shop, will feature thousands of vintage and antique items from more than 40 vendors. The organizers aim to bring the same cultural and artistic flair to the Washington Arts District.
"Tons of decorative items to re-purpose and bring into your home, it's just a little gem in the city that people don't know about," CultureMap's Barbara Kuntz says.
The items include architectural salvage, collectibles, design elements, rustic home decor and more from various vendors with unique styles. The CultureMap Moment features Mary Lou Marks, a vendor who describes her style as "girly taxidermy" and makes artwork out of 150-year-old fabric.
While vintiquing don't forget to try all of the artisan foods and food trucks that will also be there.
The Vintique Flea will be held at Silver Street Studios on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
