A night in Houston 50 years ago: Rare footage provides a fascinating look atcity's rollicking neon era
It's one thing to cruise Houston and see the landmarks that have been a part of the city for decades. But it's even more fascinating to get a glimpse of the streets as they were 50 years ago.
There are some familiar sights, including the Alabama and Tower theaters, Someburger in the Heights, Gaido's in Galveston and Alfred's Delicatessen, the predecessor to the current Kahn's Deli in Rice Village. I'm also curious about the Red Lion sign and whether or not Leo's Mexican Restaurant currently exists as the House of Pies on Kirby.
But what ever happened to Valian's Shish Kabob? I could use some of that right now.
