    WHERE TO SHOP

Where to shop in Houston right now: 16 spots for fabulous holiday finds

    Julia Davila
    Dec 13, 2019 | 9:09 am

Christmas is less than two weeks away — but don’t fret. With new pop-ups and store openings, stylish Houstonians can easily find holiday gifts and fab looks that are sure to stand out this season. Here, then, are your best bets for fashionable holiday finds.

    Away
The American brand is opening its first Houston store Wednesday, December 18, at The Shops at Highland Village (4033 Westheimer Rd.). “Houston is an incredible city, bursting with culture and filled with a diverse group of travelers - both local and visiting,” a representative for the brand tells CultureMap. The store aims to “serve Houston as a community hub for people who love to travel.” Expect in-store experiences including personalization events, panels, workshops, and more.

    Balani Custom Clothiers
From white-tie weddings to black-tie-preferred, we’ve all had our fair share of invitations with varied dress codes. The custom men’s label wants to help Houstonians “demystify dress codes.” Whether you’re attending a holiday party, winter white wedding, or casual beach ceremony, Balani can dress you, no matter the occasion.

    Christina Greene
This Houston-based brand recently opened its first showroom at 2449 South Blvd., Suite 100. Shoppers can mingle with designer Christina Greene McAllen and shop her upscale jewelry line, including the newly launched bridal collection, inspired by her own dream wedding. The showroom also carries women’s apparel, accessories, and home goods.

    Elizabeth Anthony
Throughout December, the Uptown Park luxury womenswear boutique is having a fragrance pop-up. The hand-selected artisanal fragrances are curated for not only your style, but also your home.

    Ethan Allen
Ethan Allen is now open in the renovated Uptown Park, less than a mile from its former Post Oak location. Houstonians can shop and enjoy new perks of the design center, including sitting with a designer at a workstation to view detailed, 3-D floor plans of their space.

    Jentry Kelley
Shop from this beloved makeup artists’ holiday line, including the limited edition Velvet Rose Collection. A blue velvet coin purse holds a sheer pink creme rouge, perfect for the lips and cheeks, and a rose gold powder highlighter for the eyes, cheekbones, and cupid’s bow.

    Kendra Scott
The Austin-based jewelry label’s Winter 2019 collection “features sculptural silhouettes and feminine details that capture the essence of the holiday season.” With many pieces under $100, the artfully designed collection are perfect for everyday style and holiday festivities.

Kendra Scott recently announced its online gifting assistance, which can come in handy for men shopping for their girlfriend, wife, mother, daughters, or sisters. When shopping online, select who you’re shopping for and select a word that best describes their style. Based on the information provided, gift options will appear, making it easier than ever to shop during the holidays.

    Kennimer Co.
Situated above Big Kats Barber Shop in Midtown, Ben and Bonnie Kennimer opened a storefront for their custom design house. Specializing in western wear, the husband-wife team spend their days designing custom hats from fine hare and beaver felts, western pearl snaps, embroidered suits, and more.

    Léránt
An under-the-radar gem in the Galleria area, Léránt carries an extensive selection of home décor, luxury tableware, barware, and jewelry. Shoppers can expect whimsical, colorful piggy banks to children’s clothing from UK-based designer Sarah Louise, incense burners, humorous emotion mugs, and handwoven straw clutch purses by Kayu, a favorite of the Duchess of Sussex.

    Market Street - The Woodlands
The mixed-use center has several new additions, including Madison Reed, a color-only hair salon; French fashion house, Louis Vuitton; beauty retailer, Bluemercury; and UNTUCKit, the American men’s apparel company focused on casual shirts that don’t have to be tucked in.

    MIRTH
Known for their caftans, sisters Erin Breen and Katie McClure’s local label recently launched pajama sets and blockprint robes. Ethically crafted in India, a percentage of each sale is donated to a child welfare organization in Jaipur. Lovers of paper goods will love MIRTH’s set of three notebooks featuring printed covers, hand marbled in Jaipur.

    Misty Rockwell Cosmetics
Misty Rockwell has been a makeup artist for two decades, boating clients from the Houston Texans and Miss Texas organization. “Designed for modern glamour and everyday elegance,” her newly launched line of cosmetics, includes foundation, blush, bronzer, highlighter, contour sticks, eye liner, and refillable palettes with eye shadow, blush, bronzer, and highlighter.

    Miss Robinson Fashion House
Jessica Robinson opened Miss Robinson Fashion House in Rice Village as a one-stop shop for Houstonians to not only shop but also have their hair and makeup done. “I wanted to make sure [Houstonians] can leave feeling confident and completely ready for their venture,” she tells CultureMap. Expect seasonal fashion shows and in-store photoshoot opportunities showcasing the latest style trends.

    Outdoor Voices
The Austin-based athleticwear brand is opening its first Houston location at Heights Mercantile Friday, December 13. Taking inspiration from NASA and the Astrodome, the shop features “technical apparel made for recreation, stadium seating made of synthetic turf and living grasses (a tip of the hat to the Astrodome) for communal hang-outs, and a discovery zone to get to know the products.”

    Sam & Davy Texan Wear
The Houston-based apparel company has a pop-up in River Oaks Shopping Center, at 2043 W Gray St., until January 5, 2020. The husband-wife duo launched the brand in 2017 and show no plans of slowing down. Shop everything from their Houston is Everything tees, Texas Forever and Ever tees, and Texas Dad hats in various hues.

    Tecovas
Nicknamed “the Warby Parker of cowboy boots,” Tecovas recently opened its long-awaited Houston store in Rice Village, at 2400 University Blvd., Suite 100. Shop their signature handmade boots for men and women, accessories, and more.

Thanks to the show, "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. And Carolyn Bessette," 90s minimalism is back and easy to find in Houston.

Thanks to Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, the woman who helped define ’90s minimalism is back in heavy rotation. Her classic way of dressing serves as a reminder that great style does not need logos or loud trends to make a big impact. Bessette-Kennedy's uniform of crisp white shirts, perfectly cut denim, and minimal accessories is not only nostalgic, but a stylish blueprint for getting dressed right now.

Houstonians don't need a NYC zip code or a Calvin Klein press badge to recreate her most classic looks. From River Oaks District to Rice Village and the Heights, boutiques are leaning into that same pared-back polish — making it easy to find a quietly expensive aesthetic without overthinking it.

    Accessories

    Lele Sadoughi

Bessette-Kennedy often topped off her casual outfits with a slim tortoise shell headband, and Lele Sadoughi, a boutique in River Oaks District, is leaning into similar timeless styles. The Tortoise Emma Acetate Headband and the Jet Faux Leather Bessette Headband are both available for preorder with similar styles available in-store.

    Krewe

New Orleans-born Krewe eyewear in Rice Village is channeling '90s minimalistic style with slim, small-frame sunglasses that are reminiscent of Bessette-Kennedy's go-to pairs. Its Spring 2026 collection introduces the Kate and Leah styles, each offered in three colorways.

    Fly High Little Bunny

This Houston go-to for one of a kind pieces offers a variety of both fine jewelry and classic sterling silver styles. Jeweled hoops, dainty rings, and minimal necklaces that were everyday staples of Bessette-Kennedy, are available at their Heights boutique.

    Moreau Paris

Often seen carrying a tote bag, the '90s fashion icon was a big fan of understated luxury. River Oaks District handbag boutique Moreau Paris offers a variety of bags in similar styles including the Mini Vincennes Reversible Totes giving a two-in-one option, as well as the Small Ana Saddle Leather Top Handle Bag for a more structured look.

    Clothing

    Tootsies

When it came to denim, Bessette-Kennedy kept things classic, favoring straight and bootcut styles. At Tootsies, the brand DL1961 taps into that same timeless feel. The Bridget Boot High Rise Instasculpt offers a flattering polished fit and comes in a variety of colorways and lengths making it easy to find a pair for everyday wear.

    Alchemia

One of Bessette-Kennedy's most celebrated looks was a basic white button down shirt. She often wore Calvin Klein, as she was a publicist for the brand, but the same classic style can be found at Alchemia. The Essentials Icon Shirt in white is tailored at the waist, chest, and back to give a flattering fit without the dreaded blouse gape.

    Frock Shop

A versatile black midi skirt not only goes with everything, it can be worn during any season. Frock Shop carries the ALC Remy Drawstring Midi Skirt that is easy to style and comfortable to keep on a regular rotation.

    Beauty

    Kiehl's

Used by both Carolyn and John, the Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom delivers soft hold, subtle shine, and natural movement. Ideal for the sleek low buns Kennedy-Bessette favored as well as polished styles. Kiehl's Highland Village location also carries a scent very close to Kennedy Bessette's fragrance of choice. The Kiehl's Original Musk Eau de Toilette combines classic musk with with soft floral and woody notes.
