An astonishing 855,000 residents of Harris County took advantage of early voting or vote by mail. Those who resisted the constant stream of unsolicited mailers, phone calls, and text messages encouraging them to do so can score some sweet dining deals by voting on Election Day.
As a reminder, almost all of the early voting specials like 10 percent off at Feges BBQ and 10 percent off food at The Flying Saucer still apply, too. The killjoys at Eater point out that these sort of deals are technically illegal — restaurants must offer the deal to people whether or not they voted — but the heck with anyone who claims these discounts without heading to the ballot box first. With that caveat, let's look at the options.
As part of its #VoteTogether campaign, Scotch brand Johnnie Walker is hosting a party at Goodnight Charlie’s hosted by Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show, NCIS) with live music from Chicano Batman. The brand will also host less-celebrity studded events at Houston Watch Company and Present Company.
The best deal is still at The Classic All Day. Voters can score a free lunch or dinner (one appetizer and one entree, alcohol and gratuity not included). We recommend the matzo ball soup followed by rotisserie chicken.
The seven Fajitas Pete’s locations across the Houston area are offering a bipartisan special of a red Cruz margarita, a blue Beto margarita, and white queso (with chips) for just $10. Red and blue margaritas are also available to-go in half-gallon and gallon sizes, because a little booze will help make accepting Tuesday night’s outcome a little easier.
Molina’s Cantina is offering house margaritas for only $6.
Both locations of Jax Grill are offering half-off tacos.
All five outposts of The Union Kitchen will give voters a free appetizer (limit one per person).
Show an “I Voted” sticker to get free fries at Shake Shack with any purchase.
Antone’s Famous Po-Boys will give voters a free cookie or brownie at both its Galleria and Garden Oaks area locations.
East Hampton Sandwich Co will give sticker-wearing voters a free whoopie pie.
Get a free chocolate chip cookie at Ooh La La bakery (limit one per customer).
Axelrad is hosting an election night watch party. The returns will be on the TVs in the bar and the big screen outside. A portion of proceeds from two drink specials — "The Blue Wave" (tequila, blue curaçao, lime, pineapple) and "The Red Tide" (Deep Eddy lemon, grenadine, soda) — will be donated to the local chapter of the League of Women Voters.
Golden Bagel will give voters a free drip coffee with a sticker.
Every Tuesday at La Calle in downtown features $1 tacos, but on Election Day they're extending happy hour prices until 8 pm.
