50th anniversary gala for job-providing non-profit reaps big benefits as construction giant honored
What: 50th anniversary gala for SER-Jobs for Progress.
Where: Hilton Americas-Houston.
The scoop: With 100 years in the construction business and close to half a century of support for the non-profit, who better to honor on this anniversary than the Tellepsen family? One of the key platforms of the organization is the YouthBuild program, which aids students who are pursuing their GEDs while learning skills to obtain jobs in the construction industry.
Ileana Trevino and David M. Underwood Jr. chaired the evening that raised close to $400,000 for the program including $40,000 raised during the appeal to finance a van to transport YouthBuild students to and from their construction training sites. SER graduate Rev. Jeremiah Busby led the appeal.
Who: SER national president Ignacio Salazar, SER executive director Nory Angel, SER board chair Victor Mondragón, Michael Trevino, Christine Underwood, Gwen and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Sarah Underwood, Stan Marek, Leisa Holland-Nelson and Tellepsen family members including: Howard Tellepsen Jr., Karen Tellepsen and Tom Tellepsen and their children and grandchildren.
