The most popular brands in Texas: New data reveals plenty of surprises about our loves
Have you ever wondered what the most popular brands are in Texas?
Direct Capital, a company which finances small businesses, compiled maps of the top three brands in each state. By using keyword search popularity from Google Trends, a tool which provides data for the history and volume of Google searches for branded items, the maps show trends for more than 200 of the most popular brands in the United States and provide a great deal of insight into residents consumer habits and preferences.
Not that you'll be too surprised, but the most popular brand in the Lone Star State is Facebook, according to Direct Capital's data. What might actually surprise you is that the ubiquitous social media site isn't a Top 3 brand anywhere else, according to the maps.
The second most popular brand in Texas is pasta sauce purveyor Prego. Perhaps this is the result of Texans' reluctance to make sauce at home. Coming in third is American clothing brand Levi's, which isn't unexpected as we all know that Texans love their home-grown denim.
The top brands in many states were more-or-less what you would expect. Washington-based Microsoft, Michigan's own Ford Motor Company and Maryland-based Under Armor garnered the No. 1 brand spots for those states. Arkansas, the heartland of middle America, held Walmart in its top spot, Disney topped Florida's list and Kentucky Fried Chicken was the top brand in (you guessed it) Kentucky.
Some No. 1 brands that might leave you scratching your head include SKYY Vodka in Oklahoma, Grand Marnier in Delaware, Kleenex in South Dakota and Jose Cuervo in Arizona. Apparently liquor and tissues are so universal they can be extremely popular just about anywhere.
