Sports stars mix it up for charity while UH's Shasta and TSU tiger compete in dance-off

The 411: Former City Councilwoman and track star Jolanda Jones and Olympic gold medal winner Carl Lewis chaired the lively event that served to raise attention to the subject of HIV/AIDS as well as funds for AFH programs and for 2014 scholarship recipient Adoile Turner III. Joining the chairs in the spotlight were track world record-holder and University of Houston track and field coach Leroy Burrell, former OlympianFloyd Heardand boxing promoter George Foreman IV.
More than 350 sports celebrities, local artists and supporters joined the sports-themed fundraiser complete with the sounds of DJ Chris Luera, whose music inspired a dance-off between UH's mascot Shasta and Texas Southern University's wily tiger. Before a winner could be decided, many in the crowd filled the dance floor.
Local artists including Aaron Parazette, Nicola Parente, Joe Aker and Sharon Engelstein contributed works to the auction that included plenty of sports memorabilia. The auction alone brought in $25,000 for AFH projects.
