Big Brothers Big Sisters benefit tastes really good thanks to competing chefs
What:Big Brothers Big Sisters Fourth Annual Big Taste of Houston.
Where: Audi Central Houston.
The Scoop: Houston foodies packed the showroom floor to sample bites from more than 20 restaurants, including hotspots like State of Grace, Helen Greek Food & Wine, and Southern Goods. A panel of judges, including celebrity blogger Adam Goldberg of A Life Worth Eating, Houston Ballet principal dancer Connor Walsh, and former Houston Texan Chester Pitts, selected Cloud 10 Creamery's malted barley ice cream sundae as their favorite. Attendees chose North Italia's short ribs over mascarpone polenta for both the People's Choice and Best of Big Taste awards.
Sabin Lomac, co-founder of the Shank Tank-backed food truck phenomenon Cousins Maine Lobster, spoke movingly of his own experience as a Little Brother who benefited tremendously from the program. Between ticket sales, sponsorships, a silent auction, and a raffle for a 2016 Audi, the event raised more than $100,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, which will allow the organization to serve hundreds of children who are waiting for to be matched with mentors.
