    Education Game Changer

School in The Galleria brings a revolutionary approach, gives kids true 1-on-1 attention: Inside Fusion Academy

High school junior Lauren Ready is just like other teenagers her age. She’s revving up her college application process, likes hanging out with her friends, and pursuing photography. And because she’s a student at Fusion Academy in The Galleria, she can do all three at school, while also attending classes personalized just for her.

"At Fusion I don't feel ashamed about not understanding something. My teachers and I work together to fix it. I can talk to them about anything.”

Her education isn’t rushed or bogged down by the pressure of state test scores. Instead, Ready is truly learning under the tutelage of Fusion’s teaching staff that invests time and effort into each individual student. “The support at Fusion is really awesome. I’m excited to learn and my teachers are always so encouraging,” Ready says.
Fusion is an accredited, alternative, private school for children in sixth to 12th grade and it focuses on the whole student in a customized learning environment. The state-of-the-art campus in The Galleria offers students a wide range of traditional courses alongside a medley of enrichment activities in wellness visual and performing arts and other interests.
Ready attended a traditional high school and found it was difficult to concentrate, while also receiving the attention she needed to succeed. At Fusion Academy, the student-to-teacher ratio is one-to-one and the benefits have proven tremendously successful for this high schooler.
“It was hard for me to apply myself, because I couldn’t get the attention from my teachers so I could maintain good grades and homework," Ready says. "At Fusion I don't feel ashamed about not understanding something. My teachers and I work together to fix it. I can talk to them about anything.”
Fostering a community of encouragement is just as important as cultivating the individual student at Fusion Academy.
“Our teachers are real mentors to the students. We believe everything starts with love and the learning will follow,” Rebecca Lazarou, Head of School at Fusion Academy says.
    A Typical Fusion Day

Ready’s day starts like a student in a traditional setting, arriving in the classroom at 8:30 a.m. and then digging into the classes, such as geometry and science. Because it’s just Ready and her teacher, they are able to spend time on concepts and discussion. Fusion’s structure encourages student to leave the pressure of homework at school, so after class Ready heads to the Homework Cafe where she finishes work from the previous day.

Designed like a comfortable living room, the Homework Cafe is the heartbeat of the campus. The area is divided into two spaces allowing students a quiet place for independent study as well as a place to socialize with other students.

After the first three periods of the day, Ready, her fellow classmates and Fusion's teachers have lunch together.

Designed like a comfortable living room, the Homework Cafe is the heartbeat of the campus.

“You get to have lunch with your fellow students and just chill out,” Ready says.

Fusion Academy is located in The Galleria and Ready said off-campus lunch in the mall is fun, but she and other students enjoy getting back to the afternoon classes where subjects like music and photography come alive in cutting edge studios. Ready is a photographer and looks forward to attending photography class where The Galleria becomes her muse.

“It’s a great opportunity to take photos here, but really it’s just like a normal school,” Ready says.

Parents and students interested in Fusion Academy are invited to the Grand Opening, Thursday, April 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. It’s an opportunity for perspective students to tour the campus, talk to the teaching staff and see the revolutionary approach to education offered by Fusion Academy.

It’s an environment where Ready has soared.

“I like the way the school is structured. It’s a great school and I love it,” Ready says.

Fusion Academy is located at 5065 Westheimer Rd. Suite 840. For more information, visit fusionacademy.com.
