Picture a rainy night, five Houston fashion designers, a Real Housewife and a couple of in-the-news sports stars and that’s only a glimpse of what a fashion show organized by Theresa Roemer looks like.
Fashion Woodlands, dubbed a "New York style fashion show," brought out a crowd of over 350 fashion-forward people in their best garb ready to party with celebrities for a good cause at Crave Luxury Auto.
It was a night to celebrate the Houston area's vibrant fashion scene. And vibrant it was, as bartenders kept the drinks flowing, the DJ kept the music blasting and a fair share of “wow” moments occurred throughout the night, including a number of big-name celebrity spottings. Among the stars were Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams, controversial baseball great Roger Clemens, in a pastel blue bow tie and dark tuxedo, and NFL running back Adrian Peterson and wife Ashley Brown, who made a rare public appearance after a tumultuous year in which his indefinite suspension was recently overturned. Peterson wore a navy tux with black shawl collar and lapels.
The audience wildly applauded Roemer's collection and gave her a standing ovation as she was presented flowers from emcee Sonia Azad.
The dazzling event, which benefited the Greater Woodlands Public Art Foundation, showcased the spring collections of designers David Peck, Chloe Dao, Jonathan Blake, Amir Taghi, and the debut collection of Roemer's True and Real line. The audience wildly applauded Roemer's collection and gave her a standing ovation at the end as she was presented flowers from Channel 13 newscaster Sonia Azad, who emceed the evening.
The show opened with Dao’s collection of breezy silhouettes and pastel patterns for the summer. The Project Runway star’s collection was created specifically for the Woodlands and was designed in the span of one week. “It’s always great to have new audience to see my stuff. The Woodlands may be a 30-minute drive, but it’s a whole different world so it’s nice to spread the fashion and spread the love,” she said.
The designs then transitioned to a menswear collection from the Uptown Park LUCHO boutique, with male models and bow ties galore.
Nineteen-year-old Taghi also showcased his new collection on the catwalk. The Episcopal High School senior has had a lofty career in fashion already, with an internship with the late Oscar de la Renta under his belt and a showing of his spring collection at New York Fashion Week.
“It’s quite difficult but I enjoy it, if I didn’t enjoy it then I wouldn’t be here,” Taghi said.
On the heels of the successful event, Roemer is already making plan to host the second Fashion Woodlands in the fall.
“It truly takes a village to put something like this on, and it couldn’t have been done without the incredible team we have,” she said.
