Right now it's all about summer vacation, but it's never too early to start thinking about an autumn escape.
Fall is the time airlines discount their fares, as the high season of travel fades and families settle back in the school routine. And from now until Thursday, Southwest Airlines is offering the mother of all low season sales.
To celebrate the airline's 40th anniversary, it's cutting fares between dozens of cities to $40, $80 or $120 each way for trips between August 23 and November 16.
From Houston, that means you can head to New Orleans or San Antonio for $80 round trip (though fees and taxes might raise the price slightly), to Denver, Chicago and Baltimore (and Washington D.C.) for $160, or to San Francisco and New York (via Long Island or Newark) for $120 each way.
Even better? If you've already booked a fall trip on the airline, you can change your ticket to take advantage of the sale fares at no cost. Nice, right?
There's over 80 cities to choose from when leaving from Hobby, but you'll want to book now before the best deals run out. (You can already forget travel on a Friday or Sunday.)
Where (in the continental U.S.) are you dying to go? Let us know in the comments.
