Top Tastemaker Elaine Turner picks favorite cities, hotels & restaurants
Friends and colleagues have always marveled about Elaine Turner's good taste. Now the nation is getting in on the secret.
The Houston-based accessories designer has been named to the list of Forbes Top 40 Tastemakers of 2013. She joins leaders in the world of interior design, cuisine, fashion and business selected by the magazine's travel guide for being at the top of their fields.
In addition to Turner, the list includes TV food personality Anthony Bourdain, chefs Daniel Boulud and Thomas Keller, entrepreneur Ivanka Trump and designers Kelly Wearstler, Philippe Stark and Trina Turk.
Turner is the only Texan on the 2013 list. As Forbes writes:
The Texan designer’s classic yet cosmopolitan style now reaches well beyond the Lone Star State. (Think Tory Burch or Kate Spade with a Southern flair.) What began in 2000 as a small handbag business has grown to become a luxury lifestyle brand including five eponymous boutiques and a line of designer shoes and small leather goods . . . Next up for the designer is an expansion of her boutiques, which also sell women’s clothing and accessories, with three new stores opening this year in New York, Dallas and Atlanta."
Forbes asked the tastemakers to list their favorite cities, hotels and restaurants since they commute around the world in their jobs and are experts in travel.
Turner listed New York, Paris and Austin as her favorite cities; The Four Seasons as her favorite hotel; and among her favorite restaurants are Babbo and Lusardi's in New York, Manuel's in Austin, and El Tiempo Cantina and El Meson in Houston.
