Tie The Knot In Style
Galveston’s historic hotels provide a dramatic backdrop for a storybook wedding
As you make plans for the most important day of your life, ask yourself this question: What do you picture? Do you visualize a “traditional” or “classical” wedding? Or, do you see a more sophisticated feel or an original theme?
Galveston’s historic hotels provide the ideal backdrop for couples planning the wedding that fits their dreams. Spaces are available for a “themed” wedding like The Great Gatsby, one with a tropical touch or a nautical feel, and couples can plan a black tie affair complete with their favorite color palate. Galveston’s historic hotels have hosted events ranging from lavish social affairs to small more intimate occasions.
Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Hotel, is the only historic beachfront hotel on the Texas Gulf Coast. When guests enter, they’ll know that they will be attending a wedding in one of the country’s grand hotels. This 105-year-old gem offers three venues for an outdoor ceremony and two ballrooms offering a view of the Gulf of Mexico.
Picture a ceremony for 250 in the hotel’s Oleander Garden with a backdrop of a beautiful water wall while framed in blooming oleanders. Or treat guests to a view of the Gulf with a ceremony for 300 under the hotel’s pergola in Centennial Green or take center stage in the hotel’s front lawn.
The hotel’s Veranda and Terrace Ballroom on east side of the hotel offer a glorious view of the pool, Oleander Garden and Gulf of Mexico. This area works in tandem as two spaces that beautifully complement each other with the option of dining in the Veranda and dancing in the ballroom. On the west side of the hotel, the Music Hall offers a grand presence for an even grander event. The Music Hall can host receptions for up to 300 and has been the site of numerous weddings of Galveston’s and Houston’s elite.
Located in the heart of The Strand Historic District is The Tremont House, a Wyndham Grand Hotel and boutique-style sister hotel to Hotel Galvez & Spa. The Tremont offers several indoor venues for your ceremony including the grand staircase in the Tremont Ballroom or a more intimate setting in its Davidson Annex complete with exposed brick walls and beautiful architecture. Couples can opt to have an outdoor ceremony at Hotel Galvez then take a horse-drawn carriage or a vintage Rolls Royce and make an entrance at The Tremont House for a magical reception.
The Tremont House offers an air of style that is unique to the downtown area and this hallmark hotel. Weddings of 120 work best in the hotel’s Sam Houston Ballroom. This room offers exposed brick and plantation shutters and this one-of-a-kind space offers room for dining, dancing and sharing a more intimate affair with those you love. With a contemporary feel and layout this space offers more than a reception, it offers an experience.
The Tremont Ballroom in the Davidson Building offers a majestic entrance via its stunning staircase and can host weddings from 120 to 400. This two-story distinctive space is versatile and offers room to include every detail for a dream wedding. Cocktails on the lower floor, dining in the grand ballroom and even late night bites in the Annex are all possibilities. This splendid Ballroom even offers a balcony and some outdoor seating for guests. The Davidson Building is often referred to as New Orleans in style and its jazzy set-up provides for a variety of options for the most unique weddings.
The hotel’s location in the Historic Strand Districts gives guests plenty of options to keep them entertained during their down time. Plus, The Tremont House is home to Galveston’s only Rooftop Bar.
The Tremont House and Hotel Galvez & Spa are just a five-minute drive apart, allowing couples to split up the festivities if preferred. Some couples host a rehearsal dinner at one property while the wedding reception is held at the sister hotel. Both hotels offer live jazz on Friday and Saturday evening adding an air of sophistication.
Additionally, The Spa at Hotel Galvez offers wedding parties a place to unwind or primp before the big festivities.
Wedding parties often end their weekend with Sunday Brunch at Hotel Galvez, served from 11 am to 2 pm. Named one of the Top 100 Brunch Restaurants in the United States by OpenTable users, this extensive brunch features fresh seafood, a carving station, pasta bar, made-to-order omelets, traditional brunch entrees and a huge selection of desserts as well as champagne or mimosas.
