Houston has an award-winning bar — and it's at the airport
Great airport food: It's no longer an oxymoron.
Fresh fare and gourmet offerings are infiltrating the terminals that once only offered premade sandwiches and Sbarro.
To reflect the new foodie culture, last week Manchester, U.K., held the first-ever Airport Food and Beverage Awards. And Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport went home a big winner.
IAH's Le Grand Comptoir, a stylish wine bar and French-inspired bistro that debuted in late 2009, won Best Food-Led Café Bar/Restaurant.
Le Grand Comptoir, which is run by SSP America, is part of a foodie makeover in IAH's Terminal C which also brought in high-end names like The Palm Bar & Grille. It has also been singled out by Travel + Leisure as "Best New Snack Spot" in an airport top ten list.
IAH joined New York's JFK and Newark airports as the only American winners, with the awards dominated by international destinations. JFK and the Frankfurt Airport each won three awards, with London's Heathrow and Hong Kong International airport both winning two.
