J.J. Watt doesn't have much use for bandwagon fans — and the defensive star isn't going to tolerate any doubting in the wake of the Houston Texans' 42-24 loss on Sunday Night Football. In fact, Watt sounds like he'd love to swat down any sudden Texans disbelievers just like he usually swats down passes.
"If you're jumping off the bandwagon now, you were never really on it in the first place."
"If you're jumping off the bandwagon now, you were never really on it in the first place," Watt said moments ago. "We're in first place. We're 5-1. We are a very good football team."
Watt may be unbowed by the Texans losing by 18 points in their biggest national showcase of the season. But that doesn't mean he isn't disappointed.
While Watt recorded two more sacks to push his season total to nine and a half, the Texans defense allowed Aaron Rodgers to throw for 338 yards and six touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers rolled up 427 total yards of offense. Rodgers escaped so much possible peril on this night that he could have been filming a James Bond opening sequence.
Missed sack chance after missed sack chance after missed . . .
"That's not us," Watt insisted. "That's not characteristic of us. That's not who we are."
Watt expects Texans fans to understand that and believe on. Let national sports commentators — like radio host Jim Rome — tweet about Gary Kubiak's team being "exposed." Watt expects more from Texans fans.
