Calvin Murphy opens up about child abuse acquittal and what it means to be back with Rockets
Houston Rockets legend and Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Calvin Murphy's nightmare began eight years ago when four of his five daughters alleged that he molested them.
Although he was acquitted of all charges eight months later, his life would never be the same. He has forgiven, but he hasn't forgotten. Fortunately for him, he hasn't been forgotten by Rockets fans either — and their love for him has brought him back to basketball.
Murphy is returning to the franchise's TV team, set to host pregame, halftime and postgame shows on the new CSN Houston. Murphy thought his broadcast career had ended with those molestation charges.
In this video interview with CultureMap contributor Kim Davis, Murphy talks openly about his journey, how his relationship with his daughters has changed and what he's learned through what he describes as the toughest time of his life, a time when his own freedom was in jeopardy.
Yes, he somehow found a silver lining.
Murphy discovered who he is — as a man, he says — beyond the basketball court. Watch the Houston's Voice video, produced by The KD Company.
