Not so Jolly: Green Bay Packer's arrest keeps Houston in the Purple Drankspotlight
Johnny Jolly, the suspended 6-foot-3-inch, 320-pound defensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers, has been arrested once again on drug charges.
While on an indefinite suspension from the NFL following similar charges and serving a five-year probation sentence, the 28-year-old Houston native was arrested over the weekend and charged with possession of "a compound containing codeine" — better known to natives as Purple Drank, an intoxicating mixture of codeine syrup, Sprite and grape jolly ranchers. Houston's status as the mecca of Purple Drank — the City of Syrup — has gained it national attention in the sports world with ESPN centering an entire investigative program around it.
And that's one roll that's not slowing down.
In the Bayou City's latest high-profile Purple Drank case, Jolly was also charged with tampering with evidence for attempting to conceal the drugs from police.
This is Jolly's fourth drug offense in as many years. It's almost assuredly not Houston's last high-profile Purple Drank case.
