Memorial Park hosts cool après-ski soiree for glowing Houston young professionals in lush Eastern Glades
If chilly weather and morning frost leave a yearning for the slopes of Aspen, Jackson, Park City — or Verbier in Switzerland — a chill Memorial Park après-ski-themed party brings the slopes vibe to Houston.
Glow in the Glades, a bash hosted by Memorial Park Conservancy's Urban Wild young professionals group, brings that post-ski, chalet scene to the park's Eastern Glades at 7:30 pm Friday, January 27.
Guests can enjoy a free open bar (always popular) courtesy of Eureka Heights Brewing Co., Postino Uptown Park, and William Price Distilling Co. Bites come courtesy of Cafe Natalie.
More fun comes from local chainsaw whiz Reverend Butter, who'll carve an ice sculpture by hand with a chisel and chainsaw onsite. A Silent Disco sees two DJs go head to head in a spinoff sent straight to dancers' headphones, and a raffle offers up prizes such as a tandem skydive or a stay at the Omni La Mansion Del Rio.
Tickets are $75 for Urban Wild members and $100 for non-members. Partial proceeds from ticket sales go towards Memorial Park Conservancy's ongoing efforts to revitalize the city's green jewel.
Revelers are encouraged to don cool ski wear (we like Gucci's new après-ski line) and goggles or chalet looks, if they're so inclined.
"I go to Memorial Park every day, and I think it’s the greatest part of living in Houston apart from the restaurant scene," event co-chair Ben Ackerley tells CultureMap. "So it’s a cause near and dear to my heart. By raising money to help the Memorial Park Conservancy, it ensures the park will live on to be enjoyed by future generations of Houstonian. And to boot, it’s a great party!"
