Bidders go crazy for gingerbread dog houses: A frenzy erupts for unique creations
What: Gingerbread Doghouse Contest and Auction benefiting Operation Pets Alive.
Where:Hyatt Market Street in The Woodlands.
The 411: Restaurants and bakeries in The Woodlands put their best baking talents forward in this four-legged spin on traditional holiday gingerbread houses, which were auctioned in support of the all-volunteer nonprofit.
From charming traditional gingerbread houses with a canine resident to a football field competition pitting the Aggies against the Longhorns, the creativity had guests in a bidding frenzy. In fact, enough money was raised to save 60 dogs from area animal shelters and to provide air transport to the East Coast for their placement in happy homes.
While Operation Pets Alive unveiled the group's cookbook, "Bone Appetit," guests sipped on special cocktails created by Hyatt Market Street just for the evening — The Pomeranian comprised of rum, pomegranate, Cointreau, lemon and grapefruit; the Blood Hound created from gin , sweet and dry vermouth and strawberry; and the Salty Chiwawa, a tequila concoction including grapefruit and agave.
