When popular Houston Texan Owen Danielsshared his favorite hangouts with CultureMap, he allowed that Goode Company Barbecue is tops on his list for smoky, grilled meats. That was all proprietor Levi Goode needed to extend an invitation for Daniels and his fiance, Angela Merra, to have a barbecue feast on him.
So on a recent evening, Levi and his wife, Kelley, treated the high-profile couple to barbecue, beer, pie and, as they said, "an all around Goode time." Not only did they chew the ribs and beef, they also chewed the fat over football, grilling techniques and their favorite Houston pastimes and hangouts.
Passport, please
Congratulations to chef Philippe Schmit, who on 12-12-12 took the oath as an American citizen, adding another feather in the cap of the self-proclaimed French cowboy. "It's a perfect date. I will never forget it. That's why we chose it," he said less than 24 hours after becoming the French-American cowboy!
Clearly, his friends and fans are excited. To date, the "likes" and the comments are building on his Facebook page — 234 "likes" and 74 comments.
On to The Woodlands
Elaine Turner's fashionable reach has just extended another good stretch with opening of her new boutique in The Woodlands. The luxury handbag and shoe designer and her team celebrated the store launch with a festive Pink Party, the theme based on the signature store design. A portion of sales that evening went to the American Heart Association of Montgomery County.
The party was hosted by Shirelle Chimenti, Candi Glenn, Christen Kaufman and Suzanne Potter. Guests supped on party fare from Hubbel & Hudson, sipped champagne and had fun with The Traveling Photo Booth.
Looking good
That would be Cheeky Vintage, which celebrated its fifth year of providing vintage clothing and accessories not only to Houstonians but also to designers from across the country.
Owners Tina Davis and Denise Hazen opened the doors to loyal customers for their anniversary. The duo brought in Glenn Colton, fashion historian, to share his wisdom on several of the couture pieces which were informally modeled. Courreges, Galanos, YSL and Chanel were a few of the designers shown.
Also joining the party was a regional makeup artist from Chantecaille, who worked his magic on the festive crowd.
Sight 'em
Rosemary Schatzman and Vanessa Sendukas heading up the luncheon scene at Tony's, where, as chairs of the 2013 Society for the Performing Arts Red Hot Rio gala, they whipped up midday enthusiasm for the black-tie party. Among the score of lovelies contemplating gala fun were SPA CEO June Christensen, Liz Glanville, Lisanne Rogers, Phyllis Williams and Elizabeth Vail.
