Tequila punch, VeeV shots and hot Audis warm the CultureMap second anniversaryparty crowd
Baby, it was cold outside for CultureMap's second anniversary bash in the central drive at West Ave. But with the help of a little fire water, steaming soup and a wicked DJ, the hearty crowd of more than 500 worked up enough heat to stave off the winter chill.
If the Pura Vida tequila punch and the pours of VeeV, didn't do the trick then the piping hot soup from Crú (one of the many West Ave tenants supplying hors d'oeuvres) helped as did the steaming dumplings from Gigi's Asian Bistro. Plus, the doors to the shops were open for a warm-up during the early-evening bash and, although there seemed to be a valet parking blockade, Tootsies was serving champagne.
Guests such as Miriam Habeeb, Hallie Kuntz, John Daugherty III, Katy Mayell and Lance Gilliam Jr. moved across the vast party space where sofas and chairs had been arranged in al fresco lounge formations. Several guests hunkered near the outdoor heaters while others checked out the 2012 Audis, lights on dim, that defined the perimeters of the party space.
CultureMap co-founders Nic Phillips and Lonnie Schiller were in the mix as was editor-in-chief Clifford Pugh, plus contributors, editors and marketing guru Carey Kirkpatrick, who helped organize the party along with West Ave's Michelle Yeglic. Columnist Katie Oxford and hubby Pat Oxford mixed in the crowd that included fashion blogger Merritt Beck and contributors Tarra Gaines and Nancy Wozny.
While DJ Lewis Grale and drummer Don Vaughn, stationed on the West Ave crosswalk, blasted the night air with hot tunes and over-sized, lighted snowflakes added festive notes, the partygoers persevered. Among them were Tod Eason, Gigi Huang, Mickey Rosmarin, Mark Sullivan, Kasi Kubiak, Tiffany Halik, John Pecore, Michael Coppens, Alexis Claire Tripplehorn, Nick Hull, Karen and Byron Hood, Todd Ramos, Nathan Kasselder and on and on.
When the party lights began blinking at 8 p.m., a good chunk of the crowd moved up to Alto Pizzeria for the yummy fried calamari and tasty selection of artisanal pizzas. There, proprietor Lonnie Schiller, yes the same, wife Candice Schiller and daughter Caroline Schiller popped in for a light bite.
