The 411: It was a record night for the scholarship fundraiser that brought in $550,000 thanks in no small part to honorary chairs Sara and Doug Foshee and gala chairs Colleen Dippel and Laurie Vignaud. UNCF president and CEO Michael L. Lomax presented Excellence in Education honors to Anita and Gerald Smith and John and Drucie Chase Young Builders honors to Ann Best.
Grammy Award winner Jeffrey Osborne had the crowd on its feet, including Huston-Tillotson University president Colette Burnette, who joined the R&B talent in singing along with microphone in hand. Kambrel Marshall and Gina Gaston emceed the black-tie gala attended by 500.
