Until the night of The Women's Home gala, few in H-Town knew that 90 years ago Joanne King Herring's aunt founded the non-profit that serves homeless women dealing with addiction and mental illness.
Houston's grande dame was named Hall of Fame honoree at the black-tie gala, held at the Royal Sonesta. She was recognized not only for her citywide philanthropy and her well-known diplomacy but also for her early role as chair of the very first fundraiser for the non-profit.
Also honored on this night were Adele and Ber Pieper, Bette Stead, Jane Cizik, Kay and Rene Joyce and Mandy Kao.
The evening that raised $320,000 for the charity was chaired by Fran Fawcett Peterson and Tracy and Harry Faulkner. KHOU Channel 11 morning show host Deborah Duncan served as emcee while Morton Auctioneers' GM Angus Adam handled the paddle raise.
Joining in support of the most worthy cause were Sue Trammel Whitfield, Staci and Dr. Quang Henderson, Michelle and Scott Ensell, Anika Jackson, Donae Chramsta, Elaine and Jim Turner, Janice and Charlie Hall, Miya Shay, Lisa Maloskey, Marie Bosarge and Jenna and Brendan Gilbert.
