Rice Design Alliance gala draws top names in the field to salute beloved architect

The 411: The late William D. Kendall, founder of Kendall/Heaton Associates, was honored posthumously by the gathering of 950, which included such "starchitects" as Jon Pickard and Bill Chilton of New Haven, Conn., and, via video, Cesar Pelli. Internationally-renowned developer Gerald Hines, while present, also joined in the video tribute to man who, until his death last year at age 70, worked with famed architects including Norman Foster, Ricardo Bofill, Rem Koolhaas and Pelli.
The evening that raised $575,000 to support RDA's educational programming and publication of CITE: The Architecture + Design Review of Houston was chaired by Barbara Amelio. Taking leading roles in the event were silent auction chairs Andrea and Oliver Sanchez, environment chairs Jory Alexander, Wayne Braun and Carrie Glassman Shoemake and RDA executive director Linda Sylvan.
