Orbis Flying Eye Hospital returns to H-Town and gets a big Texas welcome
What: The Texas welcome of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital.
Where: Landmark Aviation at Ellington Airport.
The scoop: Andrew Cordes and Brian H. Teichman chaired the event that welcomed guests aboard the DC-10, which serves as an accredited ophthalmic training hospital that travels the world. It was a sweet homecoming for the jetliner that was strongly supported by Houston philanthropists Eleanor and Leonard "Mc" McCollum, who was an Orbis founding board member. The mission of the non-profit is to reduce preventable blindness by training local eye professionals around the world.
This is the first time the DC-10 has been to Houston in a decade and it will be the last as Orbis prepares to launch the next generation Flying Eye Hospital, an MD 10, jet in 2016.
Who: Donna Teichman, Diana and Brad Wander, Melissa McCollum Moss, Olive McCollum Jenney, Wezy and Bobby Dees, Hershey Grace, Ed McMahon, Bubba McNeely, Rosario Ramirez, Vicsandra and Darren Jones and Bob Bobo.
