Beating cancer and taking to the runway in style in celebration of Texas Children's
They certainly know how to pull at the heart strings over at Texas Children's Cancer Center. For the third annual "Celebration of Champions" luncheon, they filled the runway in the ballroom of the Hilton Americas-Houston with a touching and celebratory parade of young cancer survivors accompanied by their parents, siblings and/or caregivers.
Sidney Faust, Scott Basinger and Judi McGee once again chaired the event that this year featured New York Times best-selling author Rebecca Skloot. She spoke about her book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Lacks' cells have resulted in breakthrough research around the globe including in the Texas Medical Center.
More than 300 joined in the fundraising effort including Cancer Center director Dr. David Poplackand Dr. ZoAnn Dryer, medical director of the center's Long Term Survivor Clinic. The luncheon honored Parents Against Cancer.
The ladies and gents who lunch for worthy causes included Elsie Eckert, Joanne King Herring, Kimberly DeLape, Jackie Garner, Tena and Tyson Faust, Emily Crosswell, Mary Ann and David McKeithan, Ned Torian, Leisa Holland-Nelson and radio personality Kevin Kline and wife Trish.
Among young cancer survivors on the runway, modeling fashions from Dillard's, was 17-year-old Devin Duncan, just named homecoming queen at Langham Creek High School.
