Keep Calm and Fight On
West Ave is in the pink with cancer-fighting outdoor party
West Avenue Wednesdays took on a pink hue as more than 100 partygoers joined with the mixed-use complex's retailers to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Guests, many dressed in pink to signify their support in the fight against breast cancer, sipped a glass of rosé and sampled small bites from area restaurants in the outdoor plaza bathed in pink light as a DJ played tunes from the overhead bridge.
Among the delicacies were Philly cheese egg rolls and deviled eggs with truffled vinigarette from Del Frisco's Grill, fig and gorgonzola bruschetta from Cru food and wine bar, spicy pork buns and ribeye buns from Nara (scheduled to open later this month in the former Katsuya space) and cupcakes from Petite Sweets.
With a donation to the Pink Ribbons Project, guests received a swag bag loaded with goodies, including gift cards and discounts from West Ave retailers. The casual get-together raised more than $1,300 for the the organization that promotes breast cancer awareness.
Looking pretty in pink were Brittany Frederick in a "Keep Calm and Fight On" tank, Roni Garrett, Dede King, Mari-Ann Montoya, Mabel Sanders, Miatta McGraw, Brenda Banks and Vanessa Jones.
Also on hand were Fashion Houston's Jared Lang, Lisa Gochman, Yasmine Haddad, Chris McCauley, Leslie Wall Hassen, Mandy Adams, Amy Bender, Lindsey Word, Chris Beverly, CultureMap's Emily Goetz, Narvello Neves, Aimee DeSantiago, Shirley James, Patty Kyle and Genevieve Joseph.
