The Cancer Vixen has them laughing at Razzle Dazzle Pink! — and HBO jumps on board
She's a famed graphic artist, a cartoonist for Glamour and The New Yorker, and a breast cancer survivor who penned a hilarious, informative account of her battle, titled Cancer Vixen. Marisa Acocella Marchetto flew in from home base in New York to share her story at the fourth annual Razzle Dazzle Pink! Luncheon held at the Westin Houston Memorial City.
Marchetto entertained the crowd with the sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant story of her personal breast cancer experience. Joining her on the brief Houston trip was her husband, famed restaurateur Silvano Marchetto, who has a key role in that story. The big news is that her book is being scripted for an HBO movie starring Cate Blanchett.
The luncheon, benefiting the Bobetta Lindig Breast Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, was chaired by Robin Mueck and honored breast cancer survivor and luncheon co-chair Suzie Johnson. With more than 620 attendees, the event raised more than $250,000.
The scene stealer at the event was Caroline Brown, who presented her touching story of being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 30.
The turnout included Bobetta Lindig, Memorial Hermann Foundation CEO Ileana Trevino, Lori Wolterman, Jerry Mueck, Cyndy Garza Roberts, Bethany Buchanan, Diane Lokey Farb, Linda Gayle White, Donna Vallone, Janet Gurwitch, Larry Johnson, Jo Lynn Falgout, Sherry Smith, Caroline and Will Brown, Soraya McClelland and Amy Pierce.
