The city's top chefs cook up a storm of amazing taste sensations at thisdee-licious benefit
Honestly, I don't think you could've squeezed another chef into Becca Cason Thrash's home with a shoe horn Wednesday night. A dozen chefs, three top-notch sommeliers, one mixologist and a crowd of 300 all packed the mega-manse for a very tasteful evening benefiting Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse.
There they were — major culinary stars John Sheely of Mockingbird Bistro, Mark Cox of Mark's and Mark Holley of Pesce amiably working practically side-by-side in the vast Cason Thrash kitchen, each serving a selection of such divine bites that swooning was totally acceptable.
Around the swimming pool, where the famous Andy Warhol Marilyns flank the brick walls, Kiran Verma, Philippe Schmit, Bryan Caswell and David Denis of Le Mistral each put their best culinary foot forward. We can't even begin to praise each of these generous masters of the range enough for their gallant culinary efforts on this charitable evening dubbed Home Safe Home.
We've seen a lot of these chef-driven events but we don't recall seeing quite the level of perfection involved. Rounding out the contingent donating time and food were Neal Cox of the Olivette at The Houstonian, Stacy Crowe-Simonson of Chez Nous, RDG + Bar Annie's Robert Del Grande, Michael Gaspard of Pappas Restaurants and Andrew LaRue of Abuso Catering.
Kudos to evening chairs Yvonne and Rufus Cormier and Barbara and Rael Elk who orchestrated this lively evening of tastings of great food and smashing wines. Sommeliers Antonio Gianola, Marcy Jimenez and Cathy Nguyen and mixologist Sean Beck oversaw the liquid aspect of the night.
The evening honored Bonnie and Dr. Larry Likover, who co-chaired the Home Safe Home benefit evenings from 2007 through 2010. They were recognized not only for the support of AVDA but also their numerous other community commitments.
Among the chic cocktail-attire crowd that rambled through the Cason Thrash home were Ede and Dr. Bruce Weiner, Claire Cormier-Thielke Jay Jones and Terry Wayne Jones, Alissa and Kevin Maples, Cindy Crane Garbs, Donna and Tony Vallone, Vicki Elliott, Niqué Luqman, Neda Ladjevardian, Alice Mosing, Frances Davidson and Sofia Adrogué and Sten Gustafson, who chair next year's Home Safe Home evening with Christy and Chris Bradshaw.
